16th Anniversary Show

To celebrate our anniversary, we present GESTURING, a show of abstract painting, which is something that has always been our gallery’s specialty.

Included are works by Carolyn Cole of Portland, David Geiser of New York, Dorothy Goode of Portland, Michael Kessler of Santa Fe, Ted Katz of Portland, Peter Opheim of Santa Fe, Anne Raymond of New York, Melinda Stickney-Gibson of New York and introducing, Elise Wagner of Portland.

DAVID GEISER   DAVID GEISER
Living and working in East Hampton, NY, our star painter David Geiser makes work that is physically assertive and highly emotive. His work has cultivated a huge following in the Pacific Northwest with many collections having multiple examples of his work.

TED KATZ   TED KATZ
Katz' tradional brand of figural abstration refers to the beginnings of modern painting. He works in an isolated, skylit garden-like studio where he begins with life drawings which then depart to emotive, color charged, objective abstractions.

MELINDA STICKNEY-GIBSON   MELINDA STICKNEY-GIBSON
New Yorker Melinda Stickney-Gibson has a truly dedicated following. She is known nation-wide for her unique and challenging brand of abstract painting. While obliquly narrative, her work is brutally honest and speaks to the soul.

DOROTHY GOODE   DOROTHY GOODE
Ms. Goode’s works explore the body and figuration using obliquely abstract forms. Her bold strokes and scratchings on the canvas enact a layering of moments, locating the still static figure held arrested, and displayed for the viewer.

PETER OPHEIM   PETER OPHEIM
A recent addition to Butters Gallery, this accomplished Santa Fe artist's abstract paintings reference landscape on a symbolic level. We exhibit both his richly textured oil paintings and dense watercolor paper pieces.

MICHAEL KESSLER   MICHAEL KESSLER
Nationally exhibited and recongnized, Kessler's approach to abstraction has become more sophisticated and rich with each new body of work. We are pleased to have added this notable artist to the Butters stable.

ANNE RAYMOND   ANNE RAYMOND
New York artist Anne Raymond creates atmospheric colorfield paintings and prints rich with vaguely caligraphic marks. While hinting at landscape, the works, with their sensual build up of texture, remain loosly abstract--allowing the viewer plenty of fle

CAROLYN COLE   CAROLYN COLE
Carolyn Cole's work hovers between consciousness and intuition, combining emotional content, observation, technical skill, exploration, humor, and reinvention.

ELISE WAGNER   ELISE WAGNER
