Artist Bio
STEPHANIE SERPICK

The perception of appearance is the subject of my work. I am interested in the appeal of beauty, but also in creating a sense of discomfort and confusion. My work has explored aspects of contradiction, including concealment and revelation, perception and reality, and beauty and repulsion. Elements of fantasy and obsession have also figured in the work as of late. Visual sources have included decorative patterns, current fashion photography, old master painting, and religious icons. More recently, I have been appropriating visual elements such as medical illustrations and other diagrams, as well as comic strip illustrations.
