Michael Hoskins was the first artist introduced into the Butters Gallery permanent stable. Initially a Chicagoan working in fugure/ground painting, he moved toward abstraction, and also moved to Portland. Since then he has come nearly full circle. In his continuing effort to questions and challenge the very nature of what a painting is, he has developed a body of work consisting of shaped constructions.
